Interlude
I have been struck badly by the Jet Lag Bug…..I have never had a problem before but I think because of the excitement of the wedding, the home exchange and the trip and then on Monday waking up at 5:30am not leaving until 4pm and then arriving in Iceland at 6:00am not wanting to waste a day…..I am finding I can fall asleep most anywhere in the daytime but wake up at night….well if you call this night…..it is light all the time! I have a problem with light, I think I should be up and out doing something when it’s light….kind of stupid isn’t it!…..even at 3:00 in the morning!!!
I am hoping that next week I can relax at in my new “home” in Sneek for a couple of days to get my head and body clock coordinated!!
A Little Drive around the Park
Icelandic horses everywhere! |
Thursday we got a little later start as we chatted to people in the breakfast room…. have we told you about the breakfast that we get at the Aurora Guest House? There is fresh warm loaves of bread…. with a large variety of spreads, ham, cheese, cucumber, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, cereals (hot and cold), bananas juice, coffee, and tea…. very delicious! There are lots of people coming and going from all over the world.
First stop was the quilt store where Carol got some material to represent Iceland on her Europe 2014 travel quilt. Then off to get something for our lunch and managed to find someone to let us use their phone to call the car rental agency to add Carol to the contract. No pay phones in Europe either!
Then off we went on little drive north to Snaefellsjokull National Park. It is about 150 km north west of Reykjavik. The scenery is amazing ……looks a lot like traveling through the Rockies but with an ocean on one side. It is so different from the landscape that you first see when you get off the plane….it looks a lot like getting off the plane in Kona but without the palm trees….lava rock!!! We kept stopping to take pictures and found a few caches. There was one point that we were underwater for 6 km…..a tunnel instead of a bridge……1000 IKR (approx |$10) each way…..but saves a lot of miles.
I will let the pictures do the talking for this little trip!
There's a tunnel under there! |
